Voting Question: How do I take myself to the next level of physical fitness?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I am 6′-6″ and 210lbs. I have always been in good shape, partly because of genetics, and partly because of consistently working out. I’ve recently gotten engaged and my fiance has started dieting and is looking to buy a treadmill and start exercising. I always support her 100%, but I felt like she could use company. Since I don’t need to diet, I’ve decided to push myself to get to the best shape I can get in.
Since I have always worked out, I feel that it is going to take a lot for me to get to that next level. There is no substitution for hard work, but does anyone have any profession nutritional advice? Some training advice couldn’t help either. I am not apposed to taking shakes, and I already take a daily vitamin. I have a gym membership and some equipment at home as well. Give me the best you’ve got!
I have zero intention of working out with my fiance. I simply want to work out while she is working out and dieting so we can motivate each other, etc.

I am pretty well trained in weight lifting, etc. I was really just researching what I can do to push myself even further. If you’re going to start messaging me about protein drinks, and rest days, then don’t waste your time. I want specific circuits that you know work, etc. and specific vitamins that you know work. I want to gain some mass and get chiseled.
I never said I was looking to lose weight, either.

I just bought an elliptical trainer and a fitness ball. I plan to use the trainer at least 30 mins every day and the fitness ball about 3 days per week. Is this a good regimen? If not any ideas involving this equipment would be great. Thanks.

Voting Question: Best Fitness Equipment for the home?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I’ve just had my elliptical trainer collapse into a heap on me after 2 years of heavy use. Looking to replace it with another elliptical or any other cardio machine. Rowing Machine? Versa Climber? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what will give me an excellent calorie burn, toning and easy to maintain?

Open Question: Does anybody have a membership too Snap Fitness?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I used to have a membership at Bally’s, but was thinking of joining Snap. Bally’s is too commercial, and there r too many douchbags in there and i hate having to change a workout routine because someone is sitting threre socializing or parked out on some equipment. I know Snap is on alot smaller scale and feel it would suit me more. Since it is 24hrs has anyone gone in there like after 8pm..and if so is it pretty quiet. I don’t want to join if it will be a circus like Bally’s.

Voting Question: I am looking for a great treadmill at a reasonable price any ideas?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Hi I recently decided to purchase a treadmill before cold weather hits. Basically my fitness goals are to start with fast walking, light jogging and them move up to a higher running pace for me like 5-7 mph. I definitely want incline as well and 1-10 mph speed. Also putting the machine together I don’t want to have to be an engineer to do it! Mostly my use is for weight loss and to increase my metabolism . I have done some research on a few brands such as horizon and merit and sole. I don’t want to spend more than $600 total. I have seen quite a few of horizon models that interest me. Unfortunately some reviews I have read have said Horizon is not the best then some say it is. I am looking for at least 2 year warranty on the motor or more , lifetime on frame and at least a year on parts and labor. I look at it like this. THis is what I am willing to spend and I don’t take $600 lightly to fork out for equipment so… if I spend this amount I don’t want to have to spend this much one year later on another. I would like to get at least a several years out of the machine. I have found a few models I like in the $499-$599+ bracket and would like avid treadmiller’s input on what they like or dislike about the brand or what to look for and not to have in a treadmill. Thanks so much!

Voting Question: Workout for 15 year old rower?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Hey, I’m 15 years old, about 5ft 11.5 and roughly 150 pounds. I usually row regularly (4-5 times a week) but I have not been rowing recently through the summer holidays. I was wondering what sort of work-out I should do (how many reps-sets) and which machines to use. I have recently joined a gym which has a good variety of weight and cardio-vascular machines and a swimming pool also, so I’m not short of equipment. For rowing I need to have good endurance, fitness and strength, and I am a little confused about what workout plan I should follow as I don’t want to be the wrong build for my sport. As it’s the summer and I haven’t be rowing, I am not doing the 4-5 rowing sessions a week, so I would like to know what workout plans I should follow to get me into good shape for when rowing starts again and what/how much I should do/lift, and how often. How much/often I should lift/exercise during the season would be helpful also. Sorry that this question is so long it’s just that there’s aren’t any 15 year old 150 pound rowers who have asked questions about this that I have seen. By the way, I have a back problem which my chiropractor says could be solved/helped greatly by building my core muscles (and maybe trying palates) so bear this in mind if possible… sorry that my question is so long and dull!

Resolved Question: How do you clean home fitness equipment?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

I have a recumbent stationary bike for home use, and it stinks! There is no removable parts to wash. I assume the smell is in the seat and back and the grip things on the handles, but dont know what to do to remove it.

Resolved Question: A workout routine that requires no equipment?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

What’s a good workout routine that will help me maintain my fitness and workout the muscles that are used when swimming freestyle? And I’m trying to keep it indoors so no running or anything until I get a treadmill lol

Resolved Question: Any ideas concerning a baby’s room in a 3BR home (details below)? At what age do you think we should move him?

Monday, September 29th, 2008

We have 3 bedrooms, one is the main bedroom (ours), the second is used as our study/office (with computers etc, and a playpen), and the third is supposed to be an extra bedroom for guests, etc, but has now become a store room (let’s see, there’s the swing, bouncer, pram, a cupboard full of baby supplies, fitness equipment, a keyboard, and some other junks) as we have no other place to stuff these things.

Right now, the baby is 10 month old and has a crib in our bedroom where he naps.
We’re thinking about transferring the 3rd bedroom (the current store room) into his own bedroom some time after his first birthday (and that would mean we have to get rid of some of the junks).

Any idea what to put in his room? (and where to put the junks… lol)
